The Top 10 Things You Should Know About Us
Hi, and thanks for reading our letter. We thought it would be fun to make a top ten list of things you should know about us. We hope you enjoy getting to know us a little better, and we would love to get to know you as well. (By the way, when the text is in italics it is Erika speaking and when the text is bold it is Ethan.)
10. We will love your child.
We have been married for six years and are still head over heels in love. We met while going to college at Brigham Young University.
I had a crush on Erika for almost a year before I finally got the guts to ask her out. On our first date, Ethan taught me how to play the card game cribbage, which we have loved to play together ever since. We had an immediate connection and were married about 18 months later. We are excited to love your child as well. We know you also love your child and we admire your strength in considering an adoption plan. We want your child to grow up knowing how much he or she is loved by us as well as by you.
9. Your child will be our first.
We have always wanted to be parents and your child will be our first. We would also love to adopt more so that your child has brothers and sisters. We both come from big families.
I have four sisters, two brothers and five nieces and nephews. My parents’ house is always full of people, love and laughter. I have three sisters and six nieces and nephews. One of my nieces is also adopted.
8. Our families are an important part of our lives.
We are both very close to our families and love spending time with them. This close relationship with our families is one of the main reasons we are so excited to start a family of our own.
My parents and all of my siblings live in the Salt Lake City/Provo area (three are attending BYU). Growing up we had tons of fun together. Some of my favorite family memories include our yearly trips to Sun Valley, Idaho where we would go hiking, biking, swimming and ice-skating. My siblings and I also always loved spending weekends with aunts, uncles and cousins at my grandparent’s farm in the small Idaho town where my mom grew up. My family has grown as we have added in-laws, nieces and nephews but we still continue our annual Sun Valley trips. We also still love to go to my grandparents’ house for the annual Rodeo weekend and the Christmas Festival of Lights. My family is all so excited to welcome a new child into our lives.
Spending time on tropical islands, scuba diving and enjoying the Caribbean sun are some of my favorite family activities. My father and I also enjoy going to basketball games and working together on our family investing company. My mother and I like to enjoy the great outdoors together. Even though my family is all around the world, they are all excited to embrace a new child. I have two sisters who live close with children and my parents are currently on a mission in Hong Kong. Once they return they will spend much of their time visiting their grandchildren.
7. We are adventurous and love to have fun.
We are adventurous and share a passion for traveling. Some of our favorite recent travel memories include hiking the Great Wall of China, snorkeling in Hawaii and racing through Disney World trying to beat the crowds to all of the rides. We have always dreamt of traveling with our children and seeing and experiencing the world as a family. At home, we like to read books, watch movies and play games together. On the weekends, we also like to try new restaurants and go to the theater.
Ethan can’t wait to have someone else to play games with in the family. Games are always more fun with three players!
6. Jesus Christ is an important part of our lives.
The gospel of Jesus Christ is very important to us both. Your child will be raised in a strong LDS home just as both of us were. As your child grows up in a gospel-oriented home, we hope he or she will come to truly know that he or she is a child of our Heavenly Father. This knowledge gives a child, later a teenager, and then an adult the confidence to face a very difficult world. The Spirit helps us all in the darkest of times when we reach out to him. He guided us to want to adopt and possibly guided you to read this letter.
5. We are financially secure.
We believe it is important for you to know that your child will be raised in a financially secure environment.
Ethan owns a successful marketing and consulting business. Because he is his own boss, his schedule is very flexible and although he works hard he has lots of time to spend with family. I am a lawyer and plan to stay home once we adopt a child.
4. We live in a cozy home in a family-oriented neighborhood.
We moved into our cottage style home three years ago and plan to stay here many more. Since moving into our home we have developed two new hobbies—remodeling and decorating. Our home is now the perfect place for a family to grow. We live just down the street from grandma’s house where there is a large yard and swing set and always a friend to play with. Our home is also close to several parks and our neighborhood schools (
some of which are the same schools I attended as a child). We know and are friends with many of our neighbors.
I actually act as the block captain for our neighborhood watch program.
3. We both had an excellent education and our children will too.
We believe that education is extremely important because it creates so many opportunities in life. Ethan and I both love to learn and were fortunate enough to be able to attend college. We think that it is extremely important to be involved in your child’s education and we want to share in his or her discovery of new things. We both read books constantly and can’t wait to read bedtime stories with our children.
2. We believe every child is unique and special.
We want to provide a loving and supportive environment where a child can develop his or her talents and can grow and thrive. We will encourage your child to develop his or her unique talents. (We know that he or she received a few excellent ones from you and his or her father). We believe it is important to give a child the opportunity to participate in many activities such as music lessons, dance lessons and sports. Through participation in a wide variety of activities, we believe a child can discover his or her passions.
1. We would love to meet you and hear about your hopes and dreams for your child.
Knowing what it is important to you is important to us. Please feel free to schedule a time to meet with us.

With Love,
Ethan and Erika
